Dominated by smaller shops and businesses, Glebe retains a village character. It combines proximity to the Sydney CBD with a green aspect and large parks.

Despite gentrification, Glebe remains demographically mixed, dominated by medium-density terraces and flats but ranging from housing commission to mansions and prestige waterfront apartments. There is a large population of students and academics. It is popular with backpackers.
