Glebe was originally a “glebe”, a parcel of 400 acres granted to the Anglican minister Richard Johnson in 1790.

Located near the end of Glebe Point Rd, the Blackwattle Studios housed 110 studios and employed over 250 people. They were demolished in 2000 to make way for residential development. There is a history of the studios at Andrew Bassett Fine Framing.
